Connecting Year 9 - 10 Students
a
cross Victoria and Asia-Pacific

This program is an initiative of the Victorian Department of Education and Training and facilitated by Asia Education Foundation at the University of Melbourne. All Victorian and International Year 9 - 10 student places are fully-funded by the Victorian Department of Education.

ABOUT THE PROGRAM

The Global Youth Forum program is a virtual, four-session learning program for Year 9 - 10 students in Victorian and International schools. It connects students in Victoria with their peers across the Asia-Pacific to develop global citizenship, intercultural understanding, and leadership skills.

The program involves exploring global citizenship concepts and addressing 21st century challenges, proposing solutions and activities aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. At the conclusion, students will present their projects and celebrate their learning journey alongside their peers from across the Asia-Pacific.

The forums provide a 4-session virtual learning program for Victorian schools, connecting students with peers in Asia and the Pacific. The forums assist students in developing global competencies and are aligned with the Framework for Improving Student Outcomes (FISO 2.0) and the Victorian Curriculum (Civics and Citizenship, Geography, Design and Technologies and the Victorian Capabilities), including global citizenship, intercultural understanding, collaboration, and leadership skills.

The learning outcomes of the Global Youth Forum program support students to:

  • Appreciate and understand what it means to be a global citizen
  • Identify local and global issues and determine the policies and systems which influence these
  • Strengthen awareness of their own biases and the biases of others and recognise that this awareness is needed to create cohesive communities
  • Identify and implement strategies to address differing views and behaviours, emphasising their impact on fostering social cohesion within both local and global communities.
