bio

Richard is Principal at Laneway Consulting, a boutique strategy advisory firm focused around Asia, export, government and business origination. He previously worked a Partner, Asia Practice at Grant Thornton Australia, leading the firm’s advisory support to its outbound and inbound Asian regional clients. Prior to this, he was Asia Practice Director at PwC. Richard returned to Australia in 2013 from a 5-year posting as Acting Post Manager, Trade Commissioner and Counsellor Commercial at the Australian Embassy in Tokyo. He has been based in Japan for a combined total of 20 years. He originally visited Japan as an exchange student, then worked in banking, government and advisory in Tokyo. Much of Richard's business experience has taken him across Asia to China, Korea, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Vietnam and Taiwan. He is a fluent speaker of Japanese with a deep understanding of Japanese culture.
