bio

Jennifer spent almost six years living and working in Japan, initially on the Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program as an Assistant Language Teacher, then as a coordinator for the Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival where her duties ranged from translating film synopses to emceeing at the opening and closing ceremonies to managing a group of festival volunteers. She has worked as a primary school teacher of Japanese and now works as a Senior Project Officer in the Languages Unit at the Victorian Department of Education and Training, supporting the teaching and learning of languages in Victorian schools. In addition to speaking Japanese, Jennifer has also studied Mandarin for 8 years and is a Hamer Scholarship recipient, spending a semester at Nanjing University in 2015. She is a strong believer that languages can open the door to a world of unexpected opportunities.
